New to First Presbyterian Church (FPC)?

Those new to the church — of every age and every stage of life — will find a caring group of inquiring Christians and a variety of programs that fit the needs of individuals and families.

The pastors, staff and congregation of FPC are warm and welcoming to those new to the church, whether you are visiting or attending a class offered here. We want you to feel welcomed and at home, and we will do our best to help you find your place in the church.

Finding Us

First Presbyterian Church is located at 307 Gates Avenue in Huntsville. We are conveniently situated at the corner of Lincoln Street and Gates Avenue, just a block east of the town square.

Worship with Us

The heartbeat of First Presbyterian Church’s family is the worship of Almighty God. Traditional worship services are celebrated Sundays at 8:30 am in the Gideon Blackburn House (across Gates Ave from the main building) and 10:30 a.m. in the Sanctuary.

Sunday mornings from 9:00-10:15 a.m. are bustling with opportunities for all ages to experience God’s Word and the Christian life. We invite you — adults, young adults, youth, and children — to join us for Sunday School.

Mid-Week at FPC

Our congregation gathers on Wednesday evenings from early September through early May for fellowship and a variety of classes beginning with a buffet-style meal for adults in the Fellowship Hall. Classes include studies of the Bible and Christian beliefs as well as interesting electives. Nursery care is available for our youngest children.

Church Education: Classes, Groups & Studies

Our Sunday School program offers a great opportunity to develop friendships and enjoy Christian community. Our adult Sunday morning program includes a variety of regular classes in a wide range of sizes, formats and content. Leadership is drawn from among church staff, church members, and guest speakers.

See the descriptions of the adult Sunday School classes at the Adult Sunday School webpage. Visitors are always welcome.

Disciple Class

Disciple is a 32-week, four-phased program of disciplined Bible study aimed at developing strong Christian leaders and disciples of Jesus Christ. It focuses on the disciple as learner, believer, follower, proclaimer, and servant while providing the fellowship of a small group for study, prayer, preparation, support, and servanthood. Disciple groups are formed in the Fall and run through the Spring meeting weekly at various times. Contact Vicky Goodwin for more information.

New Members

A New Members’ Luncheon and Overview of Presbyterian Polity and Theology is held two or three times a year. If you have questions about membership, please contact the church at 256-536-3354, ext. 122.

First Presbyterian Church is enthusiastic about ministry for and with young adults. Whether you’re studying or working, single, newly married, or starting a family, there’s a place here for you. Young Adults at FPC are engaged in worship, learning, service, and fellowship. Click HERE for more information about Young Adult Sunday School.

We have an amazing group of teenagers and Youth Leaders at First Presbyterian Church. The keystone of our Youth Ministry is found in our emphasis on empowering families and connecting students to an extended Christian family in the church.

All of our youth and youth leaders meet in the Gideon Blackburn House at 9:00 am on Sunday morning for praise, prayer, fun and announcements. We then adjourn to grade-level classes for Sunday School with a “home-grown” curriculum, covering everything from the patriarchs to peer pressure. These classes are taught by an energetic team of adults who love Jesus Christ and love kids. Once a month, all youth meet together on Sunday morning for worship, games and a lesson led by staff. For more information, contact Meredith Payne, moderator.

Sunday School is an important part of our Children’s Ministry. Each week at 9:30 am, we gather for fellowship, fun and learning. Each Sunday School class is a caring community that comes together to engage in Bible study, prayer, worship, mission, service, and many other Christian practices.

Each age or grade level through 4th grade is divided into two or three classes and teams of two to three teachers lead each class. In 5th and 6th grades, our teachers use a large and small group model for Sunday School to build relationships and community.

Our Nursery provides a safe, nurturing environment for your child. Nursery is provided 8:15 am to 12:00 pm on Sundays and 5:45-7:30 pm on Wednesdays as well as during most special worship services and many church events. Our dedicated nursery staff are grateful for the opportunity to serve you. We wish to provide your children with an atmosphere of comfort and security while they are in our care.
